About Pacific Press New York
Pacific Press New York is an independent digital newspaper covering Exhibitions, Events, Artists, Guides and Art. New York hangs more art in a week than anyone can see in a month, which is a planning problem before it is a critical one. It is part of VUGA Network, a group of independent digital publications published in the United States.
How We Work
The output is guides and explainers. Each entry names the address, the nearest train, the hours that are actually kept, the admission or lack of it, and how much of an afternoon the show needs. Nothing is listed without someone going. Press releases are treated as claims, not descriptions, and shows that photograph better than they hang get marked as such.
What We Cover
Exhibitions keeps the working list of what is currently on view across the city, each show with its closing date, location and the time it deserves — museum surveys beside single-room gallery shows. Guides is the routing desk: gallery walks through Chelsea and Tribeca, down to the Lower East Side, then across to Bushwick, with reliable hours, nearest subway stops, free admission windows and a sensible order. Events covers the calendar with practical detail attached — opening receptions, artist talks, performance nights, late museum hours and fair week programs, including ticketing and RSVP requirements. Artists profiles the people currently exhibiting, covering method, materials, representation and where else their work appears this season, written to give a visitor context before entering the room. Art News reports galleries opening, relocating or closing, museum acquisitions and leadership changes and public art commissions, while Business News follows rents, fair costs and the money keeping these rooms open.
Openings are noted with the caveat that a crowded room is a poor place to look at painting.
